  3. I have got also this disk: Gregorio Paniagua - Musique de la Grece Antique (Atrium Musicae de Madrid). It is made by this great Spanish guy Gregorio Paniagua, and it has a lot of improvisations. The vocals are sang in ancient greek (in the erasmic accent though). You can download it from rapidshare here. I haven't downloaded it, so I don't no the quality. I've got it in CD quality. I hope that you'll like it. I've got also a similar work by a group of Italian artists (in mp3) with the title: "ancient greek music rediscovered in short fragments [traditional folk] - Musica dell'antica Grecia", but I don't have more details to give to you.

Petros Tabouris is also involved (he is the master-mind, organiser, composer and player) in the making of a series of CDs (16 CDs), with the general title "The greek folk instruments", in which all the greek folk instruments are presented. Some of them are modern, others are byzantine, and others are ancient greek. The ancient greek folk instruments are:
1)The bagpipes, an ancient (B.C.) greek instrument, known in ancient times as "askavlos" (composite word from the words askos=bag and avlos=pipe).
    2)Ancient greek guitar.
    3)Syrinx (pan pipes).
4)Lyre varvitos (a special ancient greek guitar).
I would recommend you to search for these CDs. You can download the bagpipes here. I also don't know the quality. I hanen't found links for the others ancient greek instruments (I've got them all). If I find something I'll send it to you.

You know, I happened to pass by from your blog, by chance, and I was immediately attracted by your post "Petros Tabouris - Music of Greek Antiquity". As a matter of fact, I haven't downloaded the disk from your link, since I have this disk (and many others of Petros Tabouris) for many years. I was deeply moved though, to see someone from a foreign country who honors our music (and civilisation at extension), and writes kind words.

Are you Spanish, or from a Spanish speaking country? I don't speak Spanish, and so I write to you in English, but I can assure you that I can understand the meaning of what you write (you see as a Greek, I can understand many things from other languages, without knowing them at all, and especially the latin languages). I hope I've been useful to you, and thank you in advance for your interest in our music.

    Greetings from Greece!!!

  4. Thank U Dimitris, I'm downloading the Cds in this moment.
I'm Spanish and I like Ancient Greece since I was a child. All his culture and mithology, and now his music.
The first group of Ancient Greek music I heard was Daemonia Nymphe. I don't know if you know it.
I try to show the great variety of folk and world music in this blog: Arabian, Celtic, Greek, Eastern... So your recommendations will be very iseful for me.
    Greetings from Spain ;)

  5. Of course I know Daemonia Nymphe. I've seen also your posts about Daemonia Nymphe. Here is a small gift from me, I think you don't have this (it's not in your posts): Daemonia Nymphe - Remixed (2005).

Your blog is very good. Your posts are very sophisticated, and I see that there is rare music with great variety. It is nice of you to give to other people good music, hard to find, and that they would never know otherwise. I can help you with the Greek folk music (I think I allready helped a little). If I find something I'll send it to you. Have you heard the Cds I sent? Did you like them? Do you like bagpipes?

I am very glad that you like Ancient Greece. It's so nice to hear, that European friends, recognize the contribution of our civilization to humanity. I hear and read that there are many people in Spain that are interested in the Ancient Greek civilization. I know a Spanish professor named Joan Coderch-i-Sancho, who keeps a webpage with news written in the ancient greek language. (I think he is the only one worldwide who does this). I visit often his webpage and I read the news, since I can read and write in ancient greek. Do you know that the ancient Greeks settled in Spain and founded some cities? I'm sure you know the Spanish city Elche, which is the ancient city Heliki, founded by Greek settlers. I know that the people living in this city made an association called <>. I have very good feelings about Spain, I think we are close. I send my love to all Spain, and especially (allow me) to the citizens of Elche, the "Pobladores Griegos".

    Greetings from Greece!!!

  7. Hi again Dimitris.
Thank you for all the links: Gregorio Paniagua's album is really beautiful. Petros Tabouris one has a password and I can't open it or found in any other place. And I had Daemonia Nymphe's remixes cd, but I didn't upload to the blog, still.
All Europe is heir of Greece and Rome, even more the Mediterranean countries. And Spain always have been a place where different cultures have met and coexist. We have the luck of preserve our roots.
When this Christmas season ends I'll begin to upload no season music again. Including more Greek one ;)

  8. muchas gracias por tus aportaciones!!! :)

I was very excited to see this comment thread (I'm preparing transcriptions of as many ancient Greek melodies as I can find!), but was not able to open all of the files - is there a password for Gregorio Paniagua file?
